Since it was almost dark a rinse in the ocean didn't happen. We asked around town to see if we can get a place right next to the action but since the swell was hitting, the village was in full capacity. Before the trip I had booked the air and rental truck. The lodging was purposefully not reserved to allow for some spontaneity in case we wanted to leave the area and surf some place else. As I did last year we drove south to the cabinas at La Pina and easily secured the same room we had last year during the trip with Kevin Connelly and Jesse Timm for the production of my film, "Going With The Flow: Surfing Costa Rica's Jungle Breaks". I set my alarm for 5am so we can be at the break come first light. When the alarm went off I was quick to get up.

There's no other activity I'm so eager to jump out of bed for other than surfing. After everyone was up and ready to go we kept wondering why the sky wasn't getting any lighter. In our semi awake state we figured out my alarm was set to Eastern Standard Time and not to the Mountain Time of Costa Rica making it actually 3am. With everyone pretty much awake and eager to go we talked some story and in no time the sky began to lighten and would bring us closer to our eagerly anticipated first session. The early bird gets the worm, especially at this always packed wave. As we stood at the main point of Pavones we clearly saw we weren't the early birds even with our wake up at O dark hundred. It's at times >
