going towards Pavones, our planned make shift home for a week. The day of our departure was to bring a large pulse from the South. If the swell angle was right we would be in for some great waves.

After clearing the hustle and bustle of the San Jose and Cartago city limits the cloud covered Mountains of Death would stand in our way. Only the way down to the Southern Zone wouldn't pose any issues, it would be the drive back which would skew the trip in an unfortuatous direction. As we drove among and eventually above the clouds the air temperature would lower to a very comfortable and almost chilly level. The long and winding road to Dominical showed some wonderful sights.

Out of all my trips to Costa Rica I'd never seen a real life Tucan. On this trip two presented themselves on this drive and then later on as we trekked through the local mountains of Punta Banco.

Tortilla Flats, located in the heart of the beach break town of Dominical, served up some great food and allowed us to begin to detoxify from our urban lives. The drive from San Jose to Pavones is a long and rough eight hours. Most of the roads consisting of giant holes equating to a sore back and a mouth stale from the taste of adrenalin when your done. Upon our arrival to the fabled left the swell was cracking. Easily double overhead with light off shore plumes sweeping up and behind each curling mass of water. >
